Good afternoon middle school families.

After an AMAZING first few days, we are off and running. With the school year beginning, so are many of the activities that our community, students, and staff look forward to each week and year.

Each year, I send information to all middle school families pertaining specifically to varsity home football games. I do this because these games are our most attended and our seating capacity and facilities are not where we would like them as a 3A school but we do our best to make it work. With everyone's cooperation, it can be a great year with a positive experience had by all.

As we progress towards our first home varsity football game, please note the following guidelines/expectations that are in place and that we require all of our middle school students to abide by. Please take a few minutes to discuss this information with your child(ren) so we can avoid any unfortunate situations and/or removals from the activity. Here is that information:

  1. If you are dropping off your child/children at a game and not staying to supervise them, be sure that everyone involves fully understands these expectations. Please be sure that a way home for your child/children after the game is in place. For those who may not have cell phones, either plan a pick up time or encourage them to use a friends phone to call when the game is about over. Plan for traffic as it is very congested for up to thirty minutes following a home varsity football game.
  2. Student admission is $7.00 per person. If you have an activity pass, be sure you have that with you and present it at the main ticket booth. If you have questions regarding an activity pass, please contact Mr. Herman (hermabri@sblschools.com) at the high school as he manages that process for the district. Tickets MUST be purchased in advance via the BOUND app that Mr. Herman has communicated extensively the last several days.
  3. All SB-L middle school students are required to sit in the far south bleachers (nearest the HS student section) OR in the main bleachers with their parents/guardians. Main bleacher space is in short supply as our community and activity attendance continues to grow so we appreciate your help and support of this. Students not attending SB-L middle school need to sit with their parents or in their assigned area if with the visiting school.
  4. SB-L students are not allowed to be 'hanging out' near the ambulance area, the visitors sideline, or on the track area (north and south end of track). Please avoid 'hanging out' behind the main bleachers, near the restrooms, or the concession stand areas. This is in place for student/crowd management and overall safety of all guests. (Plus, when students start grouping up behind the bleachers, that is were our issues occur.)
  5. When at the game, students are asked to remain seated while in the bleachers unless reacting to a great play or needing to visit the restroom or concessions.
  6. We ask that all guests please pick up their area when leaving or finishing a concession item. Per our PBIS expectations students, Leave No Trace.
  7. Students (of any age) are not allowed to be playing football, games, etc. behind the bleachers, on the track, in the practice area north of the track, etc. Please do not allow your child to bring any footballs, etc. to the games as they will be confiscated.
  8. Anyone failing to meet these expectations will be sent home from the game (without a refund) and/or prevented from attending future activities.

Please note that I/we strongly encourage our middle school students to attend the various activities as that is a huge part of the SB-L culture and student experience. I want them to be loud, proud, and respectful to the activity and situation. That being said, we do require students to adhere to our expectations that are in place to help ensure proper management of the area, their safety while in attendance, and to create an enjoyable game experience for all of us. Anything you can do as the parent/guardian to help ensure a successful night for everyone in attendance is greatly appreciated.

I have met with many of the classes by grade and this has been covered in depth and for our returning students, is nothing new from last year. They also understand that attendance at any activity is a privilege so their best behavior and representation of themselves, their families, and SB-L is appreciated.

Thank you for your time and have a great finish to the week!
