Sergeant Bluff‑Luton Middle School is proud to highlight the meaningful work our counseling team is doing to support students’ well‑being and personal growth. Throughout the year, counselors provide classroom guidance for grades 6–8 on topics that build healthy mindsets and strong decision‑making skills, including gratitude, mindfulness, career exploration, healthy lifestyle choices, anti‑vaping education, and cyber safety.

A key part of this work is fostering connection. Our counselors regularly invite community partners into the classroom to model community, leadership, and collaboration. Recent guests have included representatives from Student Council, District Community Health, and Girls Inc.

This month, we’re excited to shine a light on one of those partners: Ms. Olivia Rey, Director of Girls Inc. Ms. Rey has teamed up with our counseling staff to bring a new opportunity to SBL Middle School—the “She Hive” group, designed specifically for girls who want a supportive space to grow, share, and build confidence.

She Hive is rooted in Girls Inc.’s research‑based Clover Model, which focuses on helping girls develop emotional strength, resilience, and healthy relationships. The group offers:

  • Real conversations about friendships, feelings, and self‑love

  • Leadership skill‑building

  • A sense of belonging that extends beyond the school day

  • A safe, welcoming environment where girls can show up as their full, authentic selves

Our counselors emphasize that small groups like She Hive provide students with an additional layer of support beyond the classroom. By partnering with Girls Inc., SBL Middle School is expanding its commitment to mental health, belonging, and empowerment for every student.
