Winter is HERE!  With uncertainty of the weather tomorrow, it is important to be aware of late starts, early outs and when school is cancelled due to weather.  Text messages, emails and phone calls are sent out through Infinite Campus.  You can also see the announcement on KTIV 4 as well as the Elementary Facebook page.  We do have winter gear available for students so if your child needs anything, please let their teacher or Mrs. Lindberg know.

For those parents who use the Warrior Y Club before and after school, you should have received an email letting you know on late start or early out days, the Warrior Y Club will not be open when this is due to weather.  Please, let your child's teacher and/or the front office know what the plan will be for your child in the event we have an early dismissal due to weather.  Now is the time to make those arrangmements so you are not scrambling when we do have an early dismissal.

A reminder there is NO SCHOOL this Friday, January 12.

Prayers go out to the community of Perry, Iowa.  This one was too close to home and made me stop and do some futher evaluating of everything we do at SB-L Elementary School.  This evaluation has produced one change that will be made starting Monday, Janaury 8th.  The front doors will continue to open around 6:30 but the interior doors will remain locked until 7:30 to ensure there is supervision on those coming into the building when the students arise.  Students who arrive prior to 7:30 can wait in the warm vestibule until the door are unlocked at 7:30.  This provides one more layer of safety to ensure nobody besides students are entering the building.  The Warrior Y Club is always an option if you don't want your child waiting in the vestibule  Thank you for your understanding.

On Thursday, January 18, we will be having an activity to continue building community throughout the elementary school.  For this activity we need your help!  We will be using wrapping paper so if you have any old, partially used, ugly, or just want to get rid of wrapping paper lying around your house, we will take it off your hands.  Please drop off at the office or send to school with your child.  Watch Facebook following the 18th to see the activity that we did!!

Did You Know?

Something we do at the Elementary School to build relationships is called 10x2.

What is 10x2?  A 10x2 is where an adult in the building buddies up with a student and walks with them for 2 minutes a day for 10 days.

Why do we do this?  We use this strategy to build relationships with students and to create a positive connection between an adult and an individual student.

When does a 10x2 happen?  Anytime during the school day that works between the adult and student.

What does a 10x2 look like?  The adult meets the student and they walk 2 laps around the building.  The student is able to talk about anything they wish including school, life, home, friends, favorite food, movie, etc.  The student drives the converstaion and the adult is an active listener and supporter.

What happens if the student wants to continue the 10x2 after the 10 days?  At the end of the 10 days the pair talks about next steps and if the student wants to continue meeting with the adult, the 10x2 continues.

How can my child do this?  If you think your child would benefit from a positive adult meeting with them daily, contact your child's teacher or Mrs. Lindberg (lindbshe@sblschools.com) to get matched with an adult.

How can I find out more?  Contact Mrs. Lindberg or Dr. McCrory.
