Wow, can you believe there are only 34 days left of school!  I could not either until somebody told me on Friday and then I had to count for myself.  The last day of school is Thursday, May 23 with a 1:00 dismissal.  We have alot of learning left to do and students tend to have busy schedules in the spring season.  Make sure your child is getting plenty of sleep and coming to school every day.  Their success relies on them being in school ready to learn!

If your child is attending the 1st grade music program Friday afternoon be sure to sign them out in the office upon your arrival.  They will then be called out shortly before the start of the program and will meet you in the gym.  If you'd like your child to remain in class but want to take them home after the program please sign them out upon your arrival and they will be called out at the conclusion of the concert.  Mrs. Kloostra will have signout sheets on the office counter for you to put your child's name down on.

The SBL PTO is so excited to be partnering with a new yearbook company called Picaboo for our SBL Primary and Elementary Yearbooks - New Year, New Yearbook!  Yearbooks are offered for sale online at SBL Yearbook Store:  https://store.shopyearbook.com/sbl-yearbooks. Did You Know:

  • ISASP assessments are a week away!  Third, fourth and fifth grade students will be testing April 15-19th.  Your efforts in preparing your student for and supporting your student in this testing process is greatly appreciated.  The elementary school staff is working hard to prepare students for the most successful testing experience possible. Here are ways you can help at home:

    • Do your best to limit appointments and absences during this time. We understand if there is something unavoidable, make-up measures will be in place; however, we appreciate as much consistent attendance during testing blocks as possible.  Most of the testing takes place in the morning so if please make appointments in the afternoon the week of testing.

    • Ensure your student is well rested the nights preceding and during testing.

    • Ensure your student eats breakfast and is well hydrated before school on testing days.

    • Talk with your student about the importance of these tests; encourage him/her to take the test seriously and work to his/her fullest potential.

Weekly Reminders:

1.  Please notify the office if your student will be late or absent, by 8:45am.  If we do not receive a call, voicemail or email, then Mrs. Kloostra will call you.  We must account for all students absent from school.  Contact the office by email kloossus@sblschools.com or phone 712-943-5563 option 2.

2.  If your child is leaving early from school, they will not be called to the office until you arrive.  This way we keep them in class as long as possible in the event you are running late to pick them up.  Advance notice to the office will help us locate your student more quickly.  Coming 5 minutes early will also help get your child out the door on time when leaving early.

3.  If your child goes to The Warrior Y Club after school and will not be going on a given day, please call and let them know.  A reminder the Warrior Y Club will be closed on late start and early out days.

4.  At times seconds may be served during lunch.  Seconds and extra milk or milk with cold lunch is not covered under the free or reduced lunch program.  Students must have money in their accounts for those extra items.

5.  Breakfast is served from 7:45-8:10.  The bell rings at 8:10 and school begins at 8:15.  Students are counted tardy if they are not in their classroom at 8:15.

6. TeamMates Mentoring Program is open to students in grades 3-12.  Mentors are always needed to help make this program a success. If you or somebody you know is interested in being a mentor sign up here.  If you would like to sign up your child to have a mentor contact Mrs. Lindberg.
