Warrior Reminder

If you’re a parent in our local public schools, your smartphone has likely become a graveyard of forgotten passwords, cluttering notifications, and a half-dozen separate messaging apps just to keep up with your children’s assignments, sports schedules, and classroom announcements.

Beginning this school year, the school district is partnering with TalkingPoints, a unified, district-wide platform designed to bring all school-to-home messaging under one roof.

“We heard our community loud and clear,” said Mr. Janzen, Superintendent of Schools. “Parents were telling us they felt overwhelmed trying to navigate three or four different channels just to stay connected with their children’s teachers and coaches. Communication with your child's school should bring peace of mind, not frustration.”

The primary goal of the switch is simplicity. School or team messages will reach parents directly where they already are: their phone’s standard text messaging app.  Parents will automatically receive messages as regular SMS texts, eliminating the need to search through multiple apps or emails.

While standard messages or updates will arrive directly via standard text message, district officials note one key detail for parents looking to chat directly with educators: If you want to engage in two-way communication with your child's teachers, you will need to download the free TalkingPoints for Families app.

Downloading the app gives parents a dedicated, direct line (during the work day) to initiate messages with teachers, reply to classroom inquiries, and stay actively involved in daily school conversations, keeping all educational chats neatly organized in one secure place.

Beyond streamlining daily alerts, the platform addresses another critical community priority: equal access to information for all families.

TalkingPoints utilizes a specialized educational translation engine to provide messaging in more than 150 languages. When a teacher sends an update in English, non-English-speaking parents receive it instantly in their primary home language through the app or text. When a parent replies in their native language using the app, the teacher receives the response translated back into English.

Crucially, this seamless translation extends beyond short messages. PDF attachments, such as field trip permission slips, newsletters, and school flyers, are also automatically translated into a family’s home language.

“When schools and families partner effectively, students succeed,” Superintendent Janzen noted. “Language should never be a barrier to a parent knowing how their child is doing in class or what’s happening at school.”

The district is using contact information already on file in its student system, meaning parents do not need to fill out new forms to start receiving updates. Families can expect to receive an initial welcome message along with simple instructions on how to download the free TalkingPoints for Families app to activate two-way messaging with their children's teachers.  Information will also be available at Open House on August 19.
