Superintendent Office Moving

The Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School District is making an important administrative move to handle changes in enrollment. Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, the district's superintendent offices will move from the elementary school to the Northwest Area Education Agency (AEA) building.

The move will include three administrative staff members: the superintendent, business manager, and superintendent's secretary. Moving these offices helps keep operations running smoothly while creating more space for educational programs. The curriculum office will stay at the elementary school to maintain close working relationships with principals and teachers.

The main reason for this decision is the changes to enrollment, in numbers and demographics, in the elementary. In the past, Sergeant Bluff-Luton Elementary has typically maintained five sections for each grade level, with some years requiring a sixth section for one grade. The 2025-2026 school year marks an unprecedented situation, with two grade levels each needing six sections, something that has never happened before.

Moving administrative functions to the AEA building maintains essential operations while freeing up valuable classroom space. The district has traditionally used one fifth-grade classroom for its talented and gifted program, but the growing number of students means this specialized space must become a regular classroom to accommodate everyone. The talented and gifted program will be relocated to the current superintendent's office. Additionally, the spaces currently used by the business manager and superintendent's secretary will be repurposed for English Language Learner (ELL) and Special Education services, maximizing the educational benefits of the administrative move. This approach shows the district's commitment to maintaining and improving specialized programming while solving immediate space challenges.

The superintendent’s offices will be located at the Northwest AEA building at 5800 Discovery Blvd, Sioux City, IA 51111. Although this address is listed as Sioux City, the building is just across the interstate and remains within the Sergeant Bluff-Luton School District boundaries.

The move will be made on June 25.  Please be patient if you try to contact the office.  The district's official mailing address will remain at 201 Port Neal Rd, ensuring all correspondence and official business continues as usual. This strategic move allows Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School District to continue its tradition of educational excellence while successfully managing the positive challenge of district enrollment.
