September 4th, 2025 - #37M bond would build new primary building for Sergeant Bluff-Luton
Facility Planning
Understanding that a school district is a direct reflection of the community it serves, the school board and leadership team of Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community Schools is committed to a facility planning strategy that reflects the priorities of the taxpayers and meets the needs of our students and communities.
We are grateful to our community members for continuing to be a part of this process and providing input for the District to consider as we explore the options for moving forward with our facility planning.
SBL Long-Term Master Facility Plan
Important things to know about the plan:
Each phase is independent of the others
Phase II and III values are based on estimated future valuations from Piper Sandler (Piper Sandler provides financial information for school bonds in the state of Iowa)
Phase 1: $37 million
When: November 4, 2025
Tax Rate: $1.93 per thousand (after the rollback on your assessed value)
What:
New primary building attached to the elementary
Retire the existing primary building
Phase 2: $25.54 million
When: To Be Determined (at least 5 years in the future)
Tax Rate: No more than $2.85 per thousand (after the rollback on your assessed value)
What:
Begin Construction of a new high school
What spaces can we afford with this dollar amount? Maybe grades 11 and 12.
Competition Gym constructed with Western IA Tech
Western IA Tech goal to raise $10 million
Siouxland YMCA is additional potential partner
Potential infrastructure work at the existing high school

On August 26th, 2025, Superintendent Janzen delivered an important presentation regarding a long-term, 3-phased approach for facility planning at SBL. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE!
During the presentation, Superintendent Janzen shared the estimated monthly tax impact of a $1.93 tax levy(compared to $2.85 last fall) based on various residential and agricultural land values.
