Dear Community Members,
On behalf of the Sergeant Bluff-Luton School Board, we want to thank everyone who participated in the recent bond election. Tuesday’s outcome demonstrates just how close we are to securing critical investments in our students' learning environments. The School Board recognizes the community’s commitment to our schools. So many of us live here because our kids’ education is second to none! Obviously, we remain sufficiently divided on the best path forward, but the margin was a mere eight votes.
As disappointed as we may be with this outcome, we are equally encouraged by the strong support shown by so many community members. The needs we identified - aging facilities and critical safety upgrades - remain pressing concerns that will not resolve themselves with time or without a bond issue. The narrow margin tells us that our community recognizes these needs, and we are closer than ever to finding a solution that works for everyone and benefits our most vulnerable children.
Here's what we know to be true: communities pass bond issues. Successful bond campaigns are built on trust, transparency, and genuine partnership between schools and the people they serve. We need your voices, your perspectives, and your leadership to chart a course forward that addresses our district's needs while respecting the financial realities of our taxpayers. With such a close vote, we believe the path to success is within reach.
We trust there are many of you who share our burning desire to improve our kids’ learning environment! We especially need those who supported this bond to step forward and become active participants in the process. Eight votes separated us from investing in our children's future…Eight Votes. Voting yes is important, but it's not enough.
We need community champions who will share their perspective with neighbors, attend informational meetings, and help build grassroots support for our schools. If you believe in the importance of these investments, we're asking you to do more than cast a ballot; we need you to engage in conversations, volunteer your time, and help us reach those who have questions or concerns. Bond issues succeed when passionate community members lead the effort, not when schools simply ask for support. Your active involvement could make the difference next time. We are so close!
Your input matters. Whether you voted yes, voted no, or didn't vote at all, we want to hear from you. In the future, we will be asking for people to join the effort to bring the bond issue past the finish line. Please consider joining this effort.
Our schools belong to you. The decisions about their future should be made WITH you, not for you. We're committed to listening, learning, and working together to find a path forward. Eight votes reminds us that every voice matters and every conversation counts.
Thank you for your continued investment in SBL Schools!
Sincerely,
Jeff Wright President, Board of Directors Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School District
