Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School Receives 1 of 17 STEM BEST® Explore Grants

The Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council at the Iowa Department of Education is awarding 17 STEM BEST® Program model schools a total of over $300,000 to help bring real-world STEM learning opportunities to life for Iowa students this summer. Through STEM BEST® Explore, Iowa schools can offer opportunities that expand on the work that STEM BEST® Program models are already doing during the school year.

Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School (SBL) will use the $20,000 grant to provide students with opportunities to learn more about Radiology Tech Careers!  SBL will offer a week-long radiology camp this summer to extend work-based and career-connected learning opportunities for students.

During the radiology camp, students will visit local health care providers for an immersive look into the vital role that X-ray technicians fill within the medical field.  Back in the classroom, students will step into a virtual clinical environment to practice taking X-rays using professional-grade technology.  Students will also learn more about human anatomy through the use of our state of art Anatomage table.

SBL is committed to preparing our students for high-demand careers by providing opportunities to students to learn about this critical medical imaging field.  This grant will allow us to provide cutting-edge technology that will also be used next school year in their Intro to Radiology Course.  SBL Schools will help bridge the gap in the shortage of X-ray technicians.
