Residents of the Sergeant Bluff-Luton School District are invited to stop by the Sergeant Bluff vs. Bishop Heelan baseball doubleheader this Thursday, June 25, to sign the petition needed to bring the proposed school bond before the School Board at its August 13 meeting.
The proposal addresses the same need that was before voters last November: construction of a new primary school building and retirement of the current facility. The measure fell just seven votes short of approval.
Petition signatures will be collected during both games, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
This is a convenient opportunity for eligible district residents to add their signature and help ensure the petition reaches the required number of signatures for consideration by the School Board.
Look for petition volunteers at the ballpark and feel free to stop by with any questions.

From choir and band to dance and drama, 525 of SBL students found opportunities to perform, create, and grow through Fine Arts this school year.
Band students participated in concert band, marching band, jazz band, honor bands, and solo/ensemble festivals. Choir students performed in concert choir, show choir, honor choirs, and solo/ensemble events, with especially strong participation in 5th grade choir, high school choir, and show choir. Our dance team performed throughout the year, hosted the Western Iowa Dance Critique, and competed at festivals and state competition. Twenty-three students took part in school plays, and excitement is already building for SBL's first musical production in more than 20 years—The Little Mermaid!
Thank you to our students, directors, coaches, and families for making Fine Arts such an important part of the SBL experience.

Baseballs and softball fans,,
We have spent significant dollars to build high-quality fields for our athletes. Help us protect it. Sunflower seeds are extremely harmful to natural turf. There are signs up as you enter that say no seeds. While you are not on the field as a fan, wind over time will blow them on to the field. Below are reasons why seeds are harmful to the turf. Thank you for your cooperation in protecting our investment.
-Fiber Wear: Accumulated shells create friction and abrasive wear on the synthetic grass blades.
-Drainage Issues: The shells slip into the crumb rubber or sand infill, blocking the field's drainage systems.
-Bacterial & Mold Growth: Unlike natural dirt and grass, synthetic turf cannot naturally decompose organic matter. Decaying seeds and shells trap moisture, leading to mold, fungi, and harmful bacteria.
-Pest Attraction: Discarded shells draw birds and rodents, which can physically tear up the turf and leave behind harmful droppings. (This is a real concern as we have rodents due to being near a field.)

A reminder of a few things for fans at the first baseball game on the new field:
1. Seeds are not allowed by fans or athletes as they can damage the turf. Thank you for your cooperation.
2. Additional parking can be on the grass on the north side of the gravel parking lot. Veer to the left of the parking lot onto the grass and then park facing south. (This will be graveled next week.)
3. The 185th will be assisting with the national anthem.
4. There is room by the bleachers for lawn chairs. Feel free to sit down the foul lines on lawn chairs as well.
5. Check out the new sign above the water fountains as you arrive. The sign was made by the students in Warrior Manufacturing.
